Fall Leaves make Compost
Most of the leaves have hit the ground – time to rake them up!
If you save a pile out of the way (maybe under a tarp?), you can have them to add to a compost pile with your kitchen scraps all winter long and into spring.
Finished compost makes an ideal Fall mulch for flower and shrub borders. Pile it on about 2-3″ deep over and around your plants. The extra soil holds your plants in place through winter thaw/freezes and improves the border’s soil for spring.
